HMGT 1170 Marketing for the Hospitality Profession

3 Credit Hour(s)
This course concentrates on the marketing of a hospitality-based business. It will cover the areas of marketing including sales, advertising, public relations, managing customer information, both consumer and organizational buying behaviors, and the impact of social media on marketing for a hospitality-based business.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of sales and marketing tools i.e. marketing plan, STR report, sales blitz, etc.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of typical positions of a sales and catering office.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of the important factors of sales and catering contracts.
  • Characterize the important exterior resources in hospitality sales and marketing; CVB’s, tour
  • operators etc.
  • Define the hospitality sales and marketing terminology used in the course text book


This course is not designed for transfer to four-year universities. Students should check course recommendations with the college or university to which they intend to transfer for a baccalaureate degree. The receiving institution always makes the final decision about transferability of credits.
