CIVT 1200 Geographic Information Systems 3 Credit Hour(s) This course provides the foundation for understanding what GIS is, what it can do and how others are using it. Topics may include; basic functions of GIS, why a GIS is so powerful, what coordinate systems and map projections are and why they are important. Student will work with GIS software to visualize geographic data, create maps, query a GIS data base, perform special analysis using common analysis tool and solve geographic problems using a systematic approach. This course is not designed for transfer to four-year universities. Students should check course recommendations with the college or university to which they intend to transfer for a baccalaureate degree. The receiving institution always makes the final decision about transferability of credits.
