GART 1002 Typography 3 Credit Hour(s) This class will focus on the fundamentals of visual design, layout and mechanical reproduction of printed communications. Topics will include a historical overview of typography and printing, basic principles of composition, a study of type and its architecture, non-digital mechanical preparation, mounting and presentation techniques, and graphic arts terminology, as well as a brief introduction to electronic prepress production. Emphasis will be placed on using graphics and typography to effectively communicate a clear message through class projects, discussion and critique. This course is not designed for transfer to four-year universities. Students should check course recommendations with the college or university to which they intend to transfer for a baccalaureate degree. The receiving institution always makes the final decision about transferability of credits.
