ENGL 1010 English Composition I 3 (3 lecture hours) Credit Hour(s) Through writing compositions and reading critically, students are taught to organize and develop ideas using various rhetorical modes and editing techniques. The course focuses chiefly on improving the clarity and effectiveness of writing and includes an introduction to the research process.

Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- respond to a prompt and effectively develop an essay using an appropriate rhetorical pattern (i.e., narration or exemplification) and put into practice skills such as planning, organizing, developing, and revising to show an understanding of writing as a process.
Prerequisite(s): READ 0810 and ENGL 0810 , or the equivalent; or enrollment in the co-requisite ENGL 0810 and READ 0810 ; or satisfactory performance on the ACT or Compass test.
