PHRX 1010 Introduction to Pharmacy Practice 3 credit hours [2 lecture hours + 1 lab hour (3 lab contact hours/week)] Credit Hour(s) The course is an introduction to pharmacy practice and the health care systems with emphasis on the role of pharmacy technicians and their relationship with pharmacists. Student Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate the ability to effectively and professionally communicate with other healthcare professionals, payers, and other individuals necessary to serve the needs of patients and practice.
- Describe the pharmacy technician’s role, pharmacist’s role, and other occupations in the healthcare environment.
- Assist the pharmacist in processing and handling medications and medication orders.
- Explain the Pharmacists’ Patient Care Process and describe the role of the pharmacy technician in the patient care process.
This course is not designed for transfer to four-year universities. Students should check course recommendations with the college or university to which they intend to transfer for a baccalaureate degree. The receiving institution always makes the final decision about transferability of credits.
