PSYC 2130 Lifespan Development Psychology

Principles and processes of human growth and development from conception to death are explored. Students examine physical, mental, and social development from a life-span perspective.


General Education Learning Outcomes (TBR Approved)

  • Think critically about how individuals are influenced by social institutions in their own and other diverse cultures.
  • Investigate the relationship between individuals and societies as it affects personal behaviors, social development, and the quality of life of individuals, families, and communities.
  • Examine the impact of behavioral and social scientific research on major contemporary issues and their disciplines’ effects on individuals and society.
  • Evaluate ethical implications in the social and behavioral sciences.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Understand the physical, cognitive, and socioemotional changes that occur throughout the human lifespan, and have an appreciation for the impact of these changes on human thoughts, feelings, and behavior.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with major concepts, theoretical perspectives, and empirical findings as they relate to lifespan psychology.
  • Examine the impact of behavioral and social scientific research on major contemporary issues as it applies to both individuals and communities.
  • Analyze and communicate the values and processes that are used to formulate theories regarding human development.
