NRSG 1700 Transition to Professional Nursing - LPN

7 Credit Hours [5 lecture hours; 2 clinical hours (minimum 12 contact hours per week per 5-week term)] Credit Hour(s)
This course is designed to assist the student in transitioning to the role of the professional nurse.  This course is not transferable for meeting degree requirements.
Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to meet the eight (8) core competencies as evidenced by:

  • Professional Behavior: Demonstrate ethical, legal, and regulatory frameworks of nursing and standards of professional nursing practice.
  • Communication: Demonstrate effective communication, including information and technology.
  • Assessment: Demonstrate ability to collect subjective and objective data to identify actual or potential health alterations.
  • Clinical Decision Making: Formulate clinical decisions to provide safe and effective evidence-based nursing care.
  • Caring Interventions: Demonstrate caring interventions that incorporate principles of dignity, diversity, safety, and knowledge.
  • Teaching and Learning:  Develop an individualized teaching plan to meet the learning needs of patients, families, and/or groups.
  • Collaboration:  Collaborate when planning care.
  • Managing Care: Use basic principles of managing care.


Prerequisite(s): Admission to the LPN mobility track. 
Corequisite(s): NRSG 1120  
This course is not designed for transfer to four-year universities. Students should check course recommendations with the college or university to which they intend to transfer for a baccalaureate degree. The receiving institution always makes the final decision about transferability of credits.
