Welcome to Southwest

A Message from the Interim Vice President of Student Affairs

On behalf of the Division of Student Affairs, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our new and returning students. We are pleased that you have decided to become a part of our Saluqi Family! Southwest offers you the opportunity to make lifelong connections, learn from challenging and caring professors, and enjoy many new and different experiences. At Southwest Tennessee Community College, we are committed to providing you with an accessible, affordable, quality education that can transform your life. No matter your destination, we are pleased that your journey starts here with us at Southwest!
This Student Handbook and Planner is prepared especially for you and is an official document of the College. It is designed to be your source of information on general rules, regulations, and procedures governing students within the campus community in addition to providing information on an array of services and resources aimed to help you achieve academic and personal success. As an engaged member of the Southwest community, I encourage you to become familiar with the information contained within this handbook. It is our hope that you make the most of your college experience by getting involved. Outside-of-the-classroom learning experiences are not only enjoyable, but they help you develop skills in leadership, project management, problem-solving, and networking. We have several student organizations, student leadership opportunities, and other events/activities designed to help you get involved around campus. If you find yourself struggling academically or with the adjustment to college life, don’t hesitate to talk with your professors or your academic advisor, seek out tutoring services in the Academic Support Center, speak with our Counseling Center, or visit Career Services to seek more clarity about your major and career choices. You can also talk to your fellow students who have been working hard through the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Campus Activities Board (CAB) to ensure an excellent college experience for you.
We all share the commitment to helping you succeed. At Southwest, your success is our success!

With Saluqi Pride,
Lee Jones
Interim Vice President of Student Affairs
