LEGL 1301 Legal Ethics and Professionalism 3 Credit Hour(s) This course is required for all students in the Paralegal Studies program. Students study the Tennessee Rules of Professional Conduct, the unauthorized practice of law, confidentiality, conflicts of interest, attorney advertising, and the various roles a paralegal plays in a law office. Students are also required to participate in at least ten hours of pro bono or volunteer services. Student Learning Outcomes: The student successfully completing Legal Ethics and Professionalism should be able to:
1. recognize the unauthorized practice of law;
2. identify significant aspects of client confidentiality;
3. distinguish the principles of conflict of interest;
4. differentiate principles related to attorneys’ fees; and,
5. indicate principles related to diligent representation.
