MATH 1740 Algebra and Trigonometry I

3 Credit Hour(s)

This course is a study of algebra encompassing linear functions, polynomials functions, graphs of functions, systems of equations and determinants.  Other topics in this course include: a study of the trigonometry of the right triangle, radian measure, the unit circle, trigonometric functions of any angle, trigonometric identities, trigonometric equations, and graphs of the trigonometric functions.
Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of properties of functions, which includes domain and range, operations, and inverses.
  • Preform transformations and composition of functions.
  • Compute the values of the six trigonometric functions for key angles measured in both degrees and radians.
  • Graph all six trigonometric functions and their transformations.
  • Use bearings and simple harmonic motion to solve application problems
  • Solve trigonometric equations using sum/difference, double angle, half angle, and product/sum formulas.
  • Recognize, solve, and apply systems of linear equations using matrices.

Prerequisite(s): (1) Grade of “C” or higher in MATH 1000  or (2) ACT Math score of 20 of higher or equivalent.
