MUS 1057 Music Theory I 3 Credit Hour(s) This course is a continuation of written and aural skills acquired in Fundamentals of Music. Emphasis is on utilizing these skills in writing music with a focus on developing working knowledge of musical notation, grammar, and vocabulary. Student Learning Outcomes:
- To recognize components of sound and its properties
- To write in a universal notation system
- To recognize music as an art form in Western culture.
- To identify basic components major and minor tonalities and their patterns.
- To demonstrate basic keyboard skills in development of scales
- To demonstrate the knowledge of basic beat and rhythmic patterns in music.
Prerequisite(s): MUS 1050 or permission from instructor/advisor. Corequisite(s): MUS 1027
