NRSG 1320 Women’s Health & Childbearing Family 3 (2 credit hours lecture; 1 credit hour clinical) Credit Hour(s) This course applies the core concepts that provide the basis for the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that are essential for providing safe nursing care for women, infants, childbearing patients and families including pharmacological management. Student Learning Outcomes:
- Describe the use of the nursing process to plan safe, effective care for the childbearing client and families of diverse cultures based on currently acceptable practice guidelines.
- Describe individualized nursing care plans based on assessed and or expressed needs of the childbearing client and family.
- Discuss current and acceptable evidenced based practice guidelines using informatics in the care of the childbearing client and family’s physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
- Describe the importance of collaboration among members of the inter-professional healthcare team and the childbearing client and family towards meeting the childbearing family’s basic needs and desired health outcomes.
- Describe various leadership, management, and communication skills to advocate for the childbearing client and family’s rights to quality healthcare.
- Discuss legal and ethical conduct and accountability for professional nursing practice and personal growth in providing care for the childbearing client and family.
Prerequisite(s): NRSG 1120 and NRSG 1710 This course is not designed for transfer to four-year universities. Students should check course recommendations with the college or university to which they intend to transfer for a baccalaureate degree. The receiving institution always makes the final decision about transferability of credits.
