FSED 1040 Funeral Directing Practicum 2 Credit Hour(s) Funeral Directing Practicum I is a course that introduces the practical aspects of funeral home operations, which includes local, state, and federal laws as they pertain to funeral service. In addition, students will participate in funeral arranging, funeral directing, and committal service procedures. All funeral directing functions will be performed under the direct supervision of a licensed funeral director and the Southwest Tennessee Community College Funeral Service Education faculty. Additional hours required. Student Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will demonstrate the ability to:
- Describe and apply the primary responsibilities of the funeral director.
- Describe the funeral arrangement process.
- Describe the types of funerals and forms of disposition.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills.
- Describe the necessary documents and forms used during the arrangement conference.
Prerequisite(s): Admission to AAS/FSE Program and FSED 1010 ; must pass all FSED designated courses with a grade of C or higher to progress to next level course Corequisite(s): FSED 1030 ; must pass with a grade of C or higher to progress to next level course This course is not designed for transfer to four-year universities. Students should check course recommendations with the college or university to which they intend to transfer for a baccalaureate degree. The receiving institution always makes the final decision about transferability of credits.
