FSED 2070 Microbiology and Pathology for Funeral Service 3 Credit Hour(s) This course introduces the principles of microbiology and pathology, especially as they can be applied to the embalming and restorative art processes. Special emphasis will be placed on tissue pathology and major causative agents of death. Student Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to:
- Describe the nature of disease of the major organ systems and identify the anatomy of organ systems.
- Describe the relationship between diseases and microorganisms, describe the relationship between disease processes and the preparation of human remains for disposition.
- Demonstrate the knowledge of diseases and related terminology which will enable competent communication with members of the medical community, allied professionals and surviving family members.
- Describe the value of the postmortem examination.
- Describe the value of anatomical gifts, tissue transplantation and medical research, identify the pathological conditions and etiological factors which require special procedures in the removal, handling and preparation of human remains for disposition.
- Describe the value of post mortem examination.
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the AAS/FSED Program and BIOL 2010 ; must pass all FSED designated courses with a grade of C or higher to progress to next level course This course is not designed for transfer to four-year universities. Students should check course recommendations with the college or university to which they intend to transfer for a baccalaureate degree. The receiving institution always makes the final decision about transferability of credits.
