EDUC 2210 Educational Psychology 3 Credit Hour(s)
Educational Psychology applies the principles of psychology to the classroom. Topics include principles of human development, learning, effective instructional strategies, motivation, evaluation techniques and challenges facing teachers in the increasingly diverse classrooms of today’s schools. Student Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify the importance of Educational Psychology, to the profession of teaching by investigating its history, important theories, domains of interest, epistemologies, culture, and values and demonstrating findings of the investigations in discussion postings.
- Evaluate and explain the impact of cultural diversity in today’s classroom in a discussion with peers.
- Apply human developmental research to educational processes discussed within the discussion boards and module homework assignments throughout the course.
- Observe, reflect, and demonstrate mastery of best practices instructional research methodology and theoretical principles applied in a classroom through mastery quizzes and module homework assignments completed throughout the class.
- Choose, outline, and summarize in one reflective essay the instructional technology and other innovations that demonstrate enhancement of the educational process for teachers and learners .
- Observe examples of classroom activities and reflect during one reflective essay on motivational research methodology and theoretical principles applied in a classroom.
- Categorize various types of disabilities and disorders and demonstrate an understanding of the legal framework for diagnoses and technology advances for students with disabilities through mastery quizzes, module homework assignments, and a reflective essay.
- Explain within one reflective essay the uses of a variety of informal and formal strategies to inform choices about student progress and to adjust instruction (e.g., standardized test data, peer and student self-assessment, informal assessments such as observation, surveys, interviews, student work, performance tasks, portfolio, and made tests).
- Practice interpersonal skills necessary for successful communication with professor and classmates via email and discussion boards.
- Display professional behavior when sending email, communicating with classmates and participating in group discussions.
Prerequisite(s): College level Math, English and Reading.
