SPAN 1030 Introduction to Spanish Language and Culture

3 Credit Hour(s)
This course is an introduction to the civilization and culture of Spain and Latin America with particular emphasis on geography, modern trends, history, and comparative cultures. The course is taught in English; no previous knowledge of Spanish required.
Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Discuss Hispanic data trends and cultural contributions in the United States.
  2. Identify major geographic features of Spanish-speaking regions.
  3. Examine Latin American cultural norms related to daily life, business, food, arts, healing, celebrations, and religion.
  4. Analyze significant people, works, and historical events of the Spanish-speaking world.
  5. Trace connections between countries, time periods, and forces that have shaped the Spanish-speaking world.
