INTR 1010 Fundamentals of Interpretation and Translation 3 Credit Hour(s) This course provides an introduction to interpretation and translation, examining a variety of models for consecutive and simultaneous interpreting as well as for sight and written translation, and an overview of the professional roles of interpreters and translators, including professional standards and practices as well as legal implications and compliance. Student Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Compare and contrast the fields of translation and interpretation.
- Analyze professional standards and practices.
- Demonstrate understanding of relevant laws and regulations.
- Identify and evaluate professional associations and licenses.
- Explain and simulate models for consecutive and simultaneous interpreting
- Explain and simulate models for sight and written translation
Prerequisite(s): Passing scores on the oral and written entrance examinations given by the department. This course is not designed for transfer to four-year universities. Students should check course recommendations with the college or university to which they intend to transfer for a baccalaureate degree. The receiving institution always makes the final decision about transferability of credits.
