HPER 1100 Introduction to Exercise Science

3 Credit Hour(s)
This course is designed to give an overview of the Exercise Science field. In this course you will gain an understanding of physical activity, kinesiology and exercise science, biomechanics, and how they relate to one another. Emphasis will be placed on what physical education is and its history, and both the scholarly and practical professions associated with physical activity.
Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Define physical activity and determine what activities constitute physical activity.
  • Describe what kinesiology is and what it focuses on.
  • Explain the difference between physical activity’s quality and quantity experiences.
  • Identify the critical components of physical activity.
  • Describe the history of the field of Exercise Science and Kinesiology.
  • Describe and differentiate between the scholarly and practicing professions in the Exercise Science field.
  • Compare and contrast the various professions in the Exercise Science profession.
  • Evaluate the student’s perspective of what a person in the Exercise Science field does on daily basis performing their job duties versus what actual professionals do on a daily basis
