This program provides the skill set needed to begin a career in the Information Technology field. Designed for dually-enrolled high school students, high school graduates, those entering the workforce for the first time, or individuals seeking to retrain into an occupational field with a high level of projected growth over the current decade and into the next, the coursework in this program provides training in three areas. These areas include:
- Personal computer (PC) hardware and software installation and support
- Basic computer network configuration, maintance and troubleshooting
- Basic network security configuration and maintance
Upon completion of this program, certificate holders will be qualified to work as a computer support specialist, network specialist providing Level I support, and as on-site technical specialists, providing field support. In addition, the courses completed in this program may be applied towards an A.A.S. degree in Computer Information Technology.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Identify, install, configure, and troubleshoot hardware components to support computing needs.
- Identify, install, configure, and troubleshoot software components to support computing needs.
- Identify risk and participate in risk mitigation activities.
- Apply security controls to maintain confidentiality, integrity, and availability, and identify appropriate technologies and products.
- Describe network management and security concepts, tools, and techniques.
- Troubleshoot issues related to the installation, security, and network access.
