INTR 1020 Interpretation and Translation Ethics and Techniques

3 Credit Hour(s)
Examination of ethics in interpretation and translation, including client confidentiality and impartiality; in-depth examination of consecutive and simultaneous interpreting and sight and written translation based on best practices to preserve tone, sentiment, and emotional level.
Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  1. Define interpretation and translation ethics 
  2. Compare and contrast interpretation and translation techniques
  3. Evaluate translation samples for ethical and technical practice
  4. Apply ethical concepts while using interpretation and translation techniques 
  5. Simulate ethical interpretation and translation using appropriate techniques 


Prerequisite(s): INTR 1010  
This course is not designed for transfer to four-year universities. Students should check course recommendations with the college or university to which they intend to transfer for a baccalaureate degree. The receiving institution always makes the final decision about transferability of credits.
