Graphic Arts Technology, A.A.S.

This program is designed to prepare graduates for the electronic graphic arts industry. Emphasis will be placed on page layout, typography, color process, scanning, quality control, illustration, and prepress production. All courses are taught using the Macintosh computer.


Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Graphic Arts Technology Degree Program:

  1. Students will be able to create vector-based illustrations through the use of industry-based templates and tools. (GART1000-I, GART1070-I, GART2070-M)
  2. Students will be able to manipulate object-oriented graphics through various techniques. (GART1000-I, GART1070-I, GART2070-M)
  3. Students will be able to assemble practical print layouts using text, vector-based illustrations, and pixel-based images. (GART1040-I, GART1070-I, GART1080-I, GART2040-M, GART2070-M, GART2080-M)
  4. Students will be able to combine skills in design, typography, and pre-press production to achieve design excellence. (GART1004-I, GART1005-I, GART1040-I, GART1070-I, GART1080-I, GART2040-M, GART2070-M, GART2080-M)
  5. Students will be able to develop a highly competitive portfolio to display a skill set to aggressively seek a position in the graphic arts industry. (GART1040-I, GART1070-I, GART1080-I, GART2040-M, GART2070-M, GART2080-M,, GART2530-M)

This program of study is designed as a terminal degree for a specific career field.

2 Graphic Arts (GART) electives can be selected from any Graphic Arts course listed below or may include any visual art courses with the approval of the Department Chair. Electives can be taken in any semester as long as course prerequisites have been satisfied.
